Explore Ettalong Beach

The word Ettalong is an Aboriginal word thought to mean ‘drinking place’. Originally occupied by the Dharruk and Darkinjung communities, European settlers soon discovered the area shortly after settling in Botany Bay. Staying in Ettalong Beach accommodation gives you access to a picturesque coastal village situated beside the popular Umina Beach.

Retaining the historic charm of a once thriving fishing and boat building community, the town holds markets every weekend. Arts and crafts are also a popular feature in the community with the historic Cinema Paradiso theatre a popular attraction in the area. The town’s shopping strip includes a variety of cafes, restaurants, home wares stores and other attractions. Fine dining cuisines include Italian, Chinese and don’t forget the local pub.

Ettalong Beach is close to the sea as well as tranquil hinterland. The local wharf is abundant with ferries travelling between Wagstaffe and Palm Beach. Surfers can enjoy the local beaches such as Umina Beach which is only minutes away.

While Ettalong Beach is a popular holiday destination for tourists, much of the population is made up of permanent residents. Take a walk along Ettalong’s gorgeous beach and you’ll soon discover the locals – they’re the ones who look relaxed!
